Phantoms in the Fort
...featuring Fort King Legends Trails
Saturday, October 19 | 5 - 10 PM
Families can enjoy a free event within the Fort grounds for kid-friendly activities from 5-7PM. This is a co-hosted event by the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department and the Marion County Public Library System. Phantom Story Tellers within the Ocali Story Telling Guild will begin their tales inside of the Fort at 7PM. There will be an intermission before the spookier stories begin (an option to have the littles or squeamish to depart) and enjoy the remainding tales from 8-9PM.
As folks walk back to their cars (trail starting at 7PM), they will get a taste of Fort King's Legends Trail. Optional stops and routes are available to meet our Legends of Fort King on the way back to the Klein Lot. The event is officially over at 10PM.
*A twist from our past Legends events! Parking will be offered at the Klein Lot, ADA Parking on site.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much walking is involved?
The Klein Parking Lot involves walking along a trail to the Fort itself, which is about 1,000 feet from trail head to Fort. ADA parking is available at the front entrance gate of the park, and golf cart assistance is available if requested.
What about mobility issues?
We have two golf carts for people with mobility issues including an ADA wheelchair golf cart.
Where do I park?
Klein Lot -
from 36th Avenue: E Fort King Street. Past the Fort and first left onto NE 41st Ave. (about .5 miles).
from Baseline: E Fort King Street and Right onto NE 41st Ave (less than 2 miles).
How do I buy a ticket?
This is a FREE event!
Is it appropriate for children?
All ages are welcome; however, parents and guardians are advised to use discretion while picking their path for the Legends trail back to their cars.
There are stories are historical and related to the Seminole War so there are mentions of violence, murder, and scalping. Signage and volunteers will be provided to help direct attendees to their chosen path.
What else is going on?
Guests can enjoy historic demonstrations, music, crafts, games and food vendors. Restrooms on site.
Is the park and Visitor Center open?
On Saturday the park and Visitor Center will be closed at 3pm.
Can we dress in costume/what should we pack?
We encourage festive participation and dressing for fun, but there will be no trick or treating. Pack in and pack out - picnics are welcome but no alcohol inside our parks.
We suggest bringing bug spray, refillable water bottles, a blanket to sit upon, good walking shoes, and flashlights!
Can I bring my dog?
We do love meeting your dogs! Being this event draws larger crowds, children running and playing field games, and may include some musket fire in the later evening, or folks in costume "lurking" in unlit areas, we do not recommend bringing dogs unless they are a registered service animal.
