Within the city limits, the Traffic Division maintains 126 signalized intersections on both city and state roads; maintains, fabricates and installs roadway signs and pavement markings on city streets and is responsible for maintaining flashing beacons, signs and pavement markings for 20 school zones. The Traffic Division also collects traffic count data for use in transportation planning and growth management for the Ocala/Marion County area and conducts traffic related studies and provides traffic calming measures to increase roadway safety and improve quality of life. ROUNDABOUTS

One of the tools of the traffic trade is the roundabout. A roundabout is a one-way circular intersection without a traffic signal or stop signs in which traffic flows around a center island with yield control at the entry points and gives priority to vehicles within the roundabout. This type of intersection is designed to minimize motorist delay and provide safe and orderly operation by assignment of right-of-way.

Motorists should determine where they want to go, approach the roundabout as you would a typical four-way intersection, stay to the right of the center island and slow down to 10 – 15 miles per hour. Watch for bicyclists and allow for them to merge into the entry lane. Watch for and yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk or waiting to cross. YIELD to traffic already in the roundabout. DO NOT TURN LEFT AT THE CENTER ISLAND.
