In the state of Florida, drowning is the number one cause of death for children between one and four years of age. As alarming as this statistic sounds, it is one that can be prevented. In 2013, Ocala Fire Rescue embarked in a partnership with Marion County Fire Department, focused on precisely that, preparing, protecting, and preventing – efforts which have continued throughout 2014. Now, in order to expand this venture, Ocala Fire Rescue, the Florida Department of Health in Marion County, Marion County Children’s Alliance, and Kids Central, Inc. have come together through SafeKids to promote the importance of barriers between children and pools.
